Luisne

2016. Video Installions, map documentation detailing locations of refraction and the time it is present, Garter Lane Gallery and locations throughout Waterford City.

The work Luisne which means glow, brings attention to refraction in our environment a phenomenon which goes unoticed and asks what else might we be missing.

For this work the viewer is given a book which contains maps of Waterford city, giving the location and time that an instance of refraction is present during they day together with the image of what they will encounter. The works becomes like a small pilgrimage almost, asking the viewer to follow the trail around the city to witness a manifestation of light refraction. The encounter becomes almost like meditation as one stops to watch the spectacle of light which is forever changing which is the nature of natural light.
The experience is completely dependent on the presence of strong sunlight creating a precarious scenario with the viewer having a fleeting experience or possibly none at all . It speaks to the fleeing nature of life and the preciousness of the moment
